Govt implementing SC verdict on Karachi, says Zardari
* President says agencies concerned are cognisant of need to implement
apex court decision and some measures have already been taken
ISLAMABAD: A meeting was held in the Presidency on Saturday to brief the president on the steps being taken to implement the Supreme Court’s judgement in suo motu case about law and order situation in Karachi
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed satisfaction that all agencies concerned of the government were cognisant of the need to implement the verdict of Supreme Court and that some measures had already been taken. Spokesperson to the President, Farhatullah Babar, said a meeting was held in the Presidency to brief the president on the steps being taken to implement the Supreme Court’s judgement in a suo motu case about the law and order situation in Karachi. He said that the meeting was specially convened by the president to apprise himself of the steps that had so far been taken for the implementation of the verdict.
The Sindh chief minister briefed the meeting on the steps taken by the provincial government for the implementation of verdict and the steps that would be further taken. The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq, former law minister Dr Babar Awan, Sindh Law Minister Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Home Minister Sindh Manzoor Hussain Wassan and Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas. Farhatullah Babar said that the Supreme Court announced the 156-page verdict in the case on Thursday. agencies
