Dissolve PA to block Senate polls
Unification Bloc stirs the pot
* Dr Tahir says dissolution of Punjab Assembly is only way to get rid of corrupt PPP government
* Unification Bloc will fully support PML-N in this move
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Unification Bloc leader Tahir Javed, by suggesting Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif to dissolve the provincial assembly in a bid to stem the Senate elections, has aroused spontaneous uproars in the country’s politicking.
Talking to a private TV channel, Dr Tahir said that his bloc would advise the chief minister to dissolve the assembly to block the Senate polls. “Punjab represents 60 percent of the country,” he said, adding that the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly was inevitable to get rid of the corrupt government.
The PPP’s possible win has been a cause of concern for the opposition parties.
Dr Tahir, the head of the Unification Bloc in the Punjab Assembly, said that the Senate’s elections would not be possible in the case of devolution of the Punjab Assembly as those were only possible with electoral colleges of all four assemblies.
He said that the Unification Bloc would fully support the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in this move.
He said he would return from London to Lahore within three days after which he would formally advise the chief minister to dissolve the Punjab Assembly. The ruling Pakistan Peoples Party enjoys majority in the 100-seat Senate. Both the key parties, PML-N and PPP, are gearing up for upper house polls to be held in March 2012. inp
