Zulfiqar Mirza vows to revive PPP of Bhuttos’ era
* Says he will take 3 bags full of evidences against MQM to Europe
KARACHI: Former Sindh home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, while praising Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan for being the first one to plead a case against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and its chief Altaf Hussain in the United Kingdom, said on Sunday evening that he would be leaving for Europe in a week for the same purpose along with three suitcases full of documentary proof.
“I had earlier visited Europe along with a suitcase containing the documentary evidences but at that time I was the minister and the Pakistan ambassador there talked me out of filing a case, but this time I have lots of evidences.
“Surprisingly, the evidences are pouring in from all over the world, and people are voluntarily extending me support in this regard,” Mirza said addressing a press conference in Lyari, the old city area of Karachi and the stronghold of Peoples’ Amn Committee PAC).
Former home minister said PAC came into being just few years back but the MQM was founded 26 years ago. “If the crimes that took place in last three and half a years, are allegedly committed by PAC, I am prepared to own it, but would Hussain dare to accept the responsibility of all heinous crimes, including rapes, robberies, kidnappings and target killings committed earlier. He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was also impressed by Imran Khan when he took up the case against MQM in the UK.
Mirza challenged Hussain to come out from his hiding and start living at Nine Zero in Karachi where he (Mirza) would talk directly to him. “I am not a coward to flee from Karachi. I am son of the soil, my family lives here and would continue to live in Karachi as this city is ours.” He said Karachi has become a hub of automatic and sophisticated weapons and questioned ‘who is buying the weapons being smuggled into Karachi?’
Stating that he was disheartened with Supreme Court (SC)’s verdict in the suo moto case on Karachi violence, Mirza said he would welcome the contempt of court notices, as it would give him a chance to appear in the court.
To a question, he said the government would not move a reference against any party, as suggested by the SC. Former Pakistan People’s Party minister gave a clean chit to Jamaat-e-Islami saying, “It was not involved in extortion”, and added that during last three and a half years no such case came against it.
Mirza, who claimed that “I was, I am and would remain the member of PPP”, turned his guns towards his own party by levelling allegations of corruption, and said, “I apologise to the nation that I spent three and half a years with these ‘thieves’, but now I would provide evidences of corruption of the government to the judiciary and the Army.
I would continue collecting the evidences of corruption and appear before the media once a week or fortnight to expose the corrupt people, he said, declaring that existing PPP was not that one founded by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto or that led by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. “I pledge that I would revive the People’s Party of Shaheed Bhuttos,” he announced. He also criticised the current Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan alleging him of corruption and said he wanted the postings of SHOs as per his own choice.
Mirza said Bilawal Bhutto would contest next elections from Lyari. He further stated that Federal Interior Minister could not dare to impose ban on PAC. ppi
