UAE pledges full support to BISP
* Farzana Raja underlins significance of social development
ABU DHABI: Various ministries and organisations working in the social sector of United Arab Emirates (UAE), on behalf of UAE government, have shown their agreement to take various measures aiming to enhance support base for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
This agreement came during different meetings of Federal Minister and BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research HE Mariam Mohammad Khalfan al Roumi, UAE Minister for Social Welfare and Director General of the UAE office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid Hazza Mohammed Falah Al Qahtani.
Farzana Raja, during these meetings, presented details of the various initiatives of BISP and underlined the significance of developing human and social development sectors, and said that development of these sectors would lead to economic growth and betterment of the lot of the poor and vulnerable people of society.
During her meeting with Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, BISP chairperson termed it imperative to think globally and act as a universal family so that the needs of deprived strata of society could be catered effectively. She briefed Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan about the various pro-poor initiatives undertaken by BISP. He appreciated the role played by BISP towards providing sustenance to the poor and assured of his fullest support to Pakistan and BISP.
Meanwhile, Farzana Raja also held a meeting with UAE Minister for Social Welfare Mariam Mohammad Khalfan al Roumi. She thanked the minister and acknowledged the support of the government and people of UAE in all trying circumstances. Mariam Mohammad on the occasion stated that both countries are friends and brothers and for UAE people Pakistan is like a second home. She appreciated the work of BISP and promised that she, in her capacity as member of Cabinet, would write a recommendatory letter to all UAE funds and humanitarian agencies and NGOs for extending support to BISP in service of the millions of deserving families of Pakistan.
Earlier, the chairperson also met with Director General of the UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid (OCFA) Hazza Mohammed Falah Al Qahtani,. Hazza assured Farzana Raja that in his capacity as the director general of OCFA, he would advise the government and the different large humanitarian funds to support BISP in its various initiatives. pr
