Sharifs’ plan to dissolve Punjab Assembly doomed: Babar

ISLAMABAD: Sharifs’ plan of dissolving Punjab Assembly in a bid to break the electoral college of the Senate has miserably failed, said former law minister Senator Dr Babar Awan on Wednesday. He said the people would not elect ‘Sharif Brethren’ in the upcoming general elections as they were showing their animosity towards democracy. He said the Sharif brothers’ conspiracy was an indication of their admitted failure to contest the upcoming Senate elections. Talking to media outside Islamabad High Court, Babar said that 12 years back, on October 12,1999, a loving general of Nawaz Sharif, who was promoted on the nepotism basis, attacked the democratic government but unfortunately Nawaz Sharif was holding a sit-in against the incumbent democratic government instead of holding protests against Pervez Musharraf’s illegal actions. “Parliament questions these so called democratic lovers as to why they did not conduct any sit-in during the nine years tenure of their loving general,” he pointed out. Awan said Nawaz Shairf was following the policy of their beloved generals including Ziaul Haq and Musharraf and trying to undermine the system. app
