Malaria outbreak intensifies in Sindh flood-hit areas


KARACHI: Malaria outbreak in the Sindh flood-affected urban and rural areas has intensified, as the draining out of rain water in several inundated areas could not yet be made possible.

The draining out of the accumulated rain water from all the major and small towns in the district Badin including the district headquarter could not be made possible.

While the work for pumping out the rain water from Mirpur Khas Subway Bridge, Mir Colony, Bhang Sanghabad and Mahmoodabad was underway, however several feet of water was still standing in the offices of the food department and warehouses.

In Sanghar, Al Mansura Colony, Society and Sanghar-Nawbshah Road besides several other areas remain inundated.

Most of the residential areas of Khairpur remain submerged, while the hapless people remain camped on the roadsides and banks of the lakes.

On the other hand, the shortage of food was imminent, as the wheat crop could not be sown.

Vegetable prices have soared in flood-hit areas including Nawabshsh.
