Int’l airline directed to submit reply to Rs 31m damages suit

PESHAWAR: A local court on Thursday directed an international airline (Turkish Airline) to submit a written statement in reply to a lawsuit to the tune of Rs 31 million filed against the airline.

The court of civil judge, Naseer Ahmad, fixed Nov 5 as the next date of hearing the case. The plaintiff, Mahmood Iqbal, a local journalist, stated that Turkish Airlines staff at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, refused to issue him a boarding pass for a flight to Pristina, Republic of Kosovo, on July 17. He stated that he was going to Kosovo on a study scholarship of the American University in Kosovo but the airlines’ staff through an arbitrary demand refused to issue him the boarding pass for the flight and deprived him of this highly valuable opportunity, besides subjecting him to severe mental and physical torture.

The defendants in the suit are: Turkish Airlines through its chief executive officer (CEO) and president, Istanbul, the chief executive officer and president Turkish Airlines, Istanbul, chief financial officer Turkish Airlines, Istanbul, the country manager Turkish Airlines, Karachi, the station manager Turkish Airlines, Karachi, Junaid, functionary Turkish Airlines, Karachi airport, Al-Asar Travels, Peshawar, and New Falcon Travels, Peshawar. Lawyers Muhammad Naeem Khan and Omar Farouk Adam represent the plaintiff in the case. The defense counsel submitted the power of attorney from the airlines in the court and would file a written statement on next hearing.
