Fair elections not possible under Zardari: Shahbaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that fair elections aren’t possible as long as Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is President of Pakistan and hence his party, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will not accept polls under him. Shahbaz, while addressing a meeting and later talking to a private channel on Sunday, said that he would not be silenced by baseless allegations and propaganda against his party and person. He also vowed to purge the country of politics of corruption and plunder. Giving warning to the federal government, he said that a civil disobedience campaign could be launched if next general elections were not held in a fair and transparent manner in the country. He said that people were fed up with the plethora of problems, including inflation, unemployment and loadshedding. He also said that while the people were suffering, rulers were busy in their luxuries, and he was sure that people would soon come to know who were their well-wishers and committed to them and the country and who were not. staff report
