People refuse to administer polio drops to children in Khyber
LANDIKOTAL: People refused to administer polio drops to their children.
The health department is not interested to dispatch their health teams to provide the other vaccines such as Measles, TT, BCG and DPT, locals argued that is why they are not ready to allow polio teams in Khyber.
Iran Khan Afridi, a social activist and resident of Sultan Khel, while refusing to let his village children to be administered polio drops by polio teams, argued that they were promised by concerned health officials that they would be provided the other routine vaccines, but they failed to materialize their pledges. We don’t know why the health authorities are keenly interested only in giving polio drops to their children while they ignore to provide the other vaccines that are more necessary, Iran Khan Afridi questioned.
Iqbal Khan also said that they requested the health authorities to provide them with mosquitoes nets so they could protect their children from malaria and dengue virus, but regretted that officials distributed the nets among their nears and dears who sold the mosquitoes nets in markets. He also asked the polio teams to avoid coming to their village at Sheikhwal until they provide the other vaccines and mosquitoes’ nets.
When the polio teams were contacted to comment, they said that health officials had approached the education office to stop the salaries of those government employees, teachers until they were willing to allow the polio teams to administer polio drops to their children. sudhir ahmad afridi
