Pensioner dies waiting entire night outside bank

LAHORE: An elderly pensioner of the Pakistan Railways (PR) lost his life while waiting outside a bank the whole night for his turn to get his pension. Mahmood Khan, 68, had been standing in a long queue outside the National Bank’s Mughalpura workshop branch since Tuesday to get his pension. On Wednesday morning, he fell unconscious and was shifted to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. A PR spokesman said that the reason behind the non-payment of pensions could be the unexpected bank holiday on Monday, which might have delayed the transfer of funds through the banking system. Lawyer Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed a writ petition in the sessions court for registration of cases against the prime minister, Railways minister and others responsible for the delay in payment of salaries and pensions of railways employees. President Asif Ali Zardari ordered a probe into the death of the pensioner and Federal Minister for Railways Ghulam Ahmad Bilour blamed the Finance Ministry for the death of Mahmood Khan. shabbir sarwar
