President Zardari to stay in Presidency till 2013: Babar
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s central leader and former federal law minister Dr Babar Babar, on Friday, said that Zardari would stay in the Presidency till 2013, and no political actor could decide about president’s office. Babar lashed out at Sharif brothers by labeling them as ‘Shar brothers’ (mischievous brothers) and termed the derogatory language used against President Asif Ali Zardari an insult to elected parliament. Immediately after PML-N’s rally in Lahore, Babar wasted no time in paying the Sharif brothers in the same coin when talking to reporters he called the protest rally a ‘comedy show’ by alleging that resources of the provincial government were used to stage the rally in the provincial capital of Punjab. Babar severely criticised the language used against an elected president and believed that it was a direct insult of parliament which elected Zardari. “The words used for the president by PML-N leaders were even below the level of that of a tangawala,” Babar noted. He called PML-N’s show a flop and declared that the warpath adopted by the party would culminate in their escape to Jeddah as they did in the past. He felt that all the anguish of PML-N against Zardari was in fact their unsuccessful attempt to conceal failures of their provincial government. Babar also reminded the opposition party that PPP was not the party of escapists, but a party’s whose history was replete with sacrifices against dictatorial regimes. He declared that democratic process would continue despite impatience of PML-N leadership with the present government. He accused the PML-N leaders of using official resources by bringing the whole machinery of Punjab to a halt for a comedy show stretched on just few hundreds meters. Babar claimed that 12,000 personnel of police were deployed for this ‘puppet show’ by forcibly closing down shops and transport in Lahore. He also alleged that all provincial government employees were forcibly made bound to attend the rally. staff report
