LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, while declaring that corruption and tax evasion were the biggest problems of Pakistan, warned the ruling elites and politicians to declare all hidden assets within and without the country, threatening that otherwise, his party would start a civil disobedience movement across the country.
Addressing a jam-packed gathering of charged workers of the party at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday, Imran Khan said that the most serious and biggest problem of Pakistan was corruption and tax evasion and that his party would wipe it out if it came into power. He disclosed that Pakistan was facing a loss of more than Rs 3,000 billion annually due to tax evasion and corruption. PTI supporters, numbering in the tens of thousands, swarmed in from all over to hear their leader speak. The former cricketer claimed that his party had worked hard and tried to bring about change for the last 15 years and that today was the day that their labour was bearing fruit as change had come and the nation had been roused from a deep slumber.
“I selected Lahore as a venue for my public meeting as the founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah also started his movement in 1940 from here,” he declaimed.
Highlighting his political agenda before the masses of Lahore, he said that he had established a special cell in the party to probe into the details of the assets of all politicians and would later hold them accountable.
On the unrest in Balochistan, he said that he would negotiate with Balochi leaders to resolve their problems and would give the province the status it deserved after his government was established in Pakistan. Imran Khan assured the gathering that he would abolish the patwari system after computerising land revenue issues to save the people from the injustice of the land record officers. The PTI chief declared that local people would be given the ability to elect their own police chief for their concerned police stations. He also promised to eradicate the land grabbing mafia and further promised that he would make the police non-political, as this was the only thing that could bring about peace in Karachi.
About the judicial system, he observed that justice was for sale in courts and promised to ensure that the people get true justice from the judiciary after coming into power.
Regarding the war on terror, Imran Khan said that Pakistani rulers had sold the blood of 35,000 Pakistanis for a few dollars by joining it.
Talking about foreign policy, he asserted that the PTI would befriend the US and all other countries, but would not let Pakistan be America’s slave. Imran Khan also announced that he would rather die than take any more foreign aid and said that under his leadership, load shedding would soon come to an end in the country.
He also announced that villages would become autonomous through a local bodies system and assured minorities that they would be treated equally under his rule.
The crowd danced to a drumbeat throughout his speech waved the party flags in the sprawling Minar-e-Pakistan ground, which was ringed with tight security, all the while chanting slogans like “Long live Imran Khan” and “Who will save Pakistan? Imran Khan, Imran Khan.”
