Balochistan quake affected in remote areas still waiting for relief
QUETTA: Survivors of the September 24 earthquake in the remote areas Awaran district of Balochistan are still waiting for relief to arrive. A week after the deadly quake, several people are living without any shelter, food or drinking water.
Quake affected people in Awaran and Mashkay have complained of acute shortage of medicines for the injured, food, drinking water and other basic necessities. Numerous diseases are spreading in these areas due to high unhygienic living conditions.
There have also been complaints of slow pace of the distribution of relief materials piled up at the district headquarter of Awaran. Quake survivors’ said they were busy in removing the debris of their demolished houses on self-help basis as the government machinery lagged far behind.
The government on the other hand has claimed that relief goods have been made available in sufficient quantity and are being distributed among the quake affected people. The goods are being distributed despite the fact that there have been insurgent attacks on doctors, paramedics and volunteers.
