KP hopeful of ‘desired results’ from peace process
By Iqbal Khattak
PESHAWAR: The Apex Committee, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s key decision-making body, on Monday expressed the hope that the peace process which the country’s political and military leadership agreed upon would “yield the desired results”.
“We would give peace process every chance to ensure stability in the province but at the same time would keep all other options open if the situation so required,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shaukatullah told the meeting, which Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Commander 11 Corps Lt Gen Khalid Rabbani attended. “Cowardly acts of terrorism would neither deter the government nor compel it to compromise on the sacred trust of maintaining security and safety of the people. “We have been working for restoring peace and normalcy in society in the past and will continue our efforts in the future also.”
While presiding over the 35th meeting of the Apex Committee, the governor expressed the hope the peace process would “yield the desired results.” The option for more effective approach to tighten the noose around the perpetrators of acts of terror and bring them to justice was open, a communiqué from the Governor’s House quoted him as saying.
