Staff Report
KARACHI: Youth can play an effective role in today’s worsening law and order situation, said Washdev Mehraj, governing board member, Sindh for Youth Advocacy Network (YAN). He was addressing an orientation session of YAN’s project “Talab-e-Aman” at the Department of Sociology, University of Karachi on Tuesday. Mehraj said the society is divided on the basis of beliefs and political differences, in which peace building measures are very important.
“The worsening law and order situation has also crept into educational institutions, which is why YAN has launched this project. It will help young people build intercultural and interfaith harmony,” said Mehraj. The peace project has been launched in collaboration with the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations to initiate dialogue in five public sector universities between the young people belonging to different cultures, ethnicities, religions and socio-economic backgrounds. Nousheen Raza, Zulfikar Bukhari and Andeel Ali also spoke, and about 100 students, and faculty members attended the event.
