SC orders quick preparations for Balochistan LG polls

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad has directed all the departments concerned to expedite preparations for holding local government (LG) elections in the province in light of the Supreme Court’s order.

He said that conduct of these elections is a constitutional responsibility which should necessarily be met. The chief secretary expressed these views while addressing a meeting in Quetta. Local Government Secretary Kazim Niaz, Home Secretary Asad Gilani, Law Secretary Safdar Hussain, representatives of Election Commission, NADRA and other departments also attended the meeting.

Briefing the meeting about the ongoing preparations for holding LG polls, Kazim Niaz said that December 7 has been fixed for LG polls in Balochistan and polls would be held on a party basis.

He said that necessary amendments approved by provincial assembly in LG Act were imposed in the province with immediate effect, adding that LG election rules and regulations and laws have been framed while some of them are under process. The secretary said the process of delimitation of constituencies has been completed in 29 districts of the province while work in Khuzdar, Pishin and Quetta is underway which is expected to be completed soon.
