Pakistan wants peace in region, says NawazISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Friday reiterated that Pakistan wants peace in the region and was not involved in any arms race.
Pakistan’s strategic capability was based on the policy of credible minimum deterrence, he said in remarks during his visit to the National Command Centre (NCC) of the National Command Authority (NCA) and a weapons storage site. Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shamim Wynne, Strategic Plans Division (SPD) Director General Lt Gen (r) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, senior military officers, scientists and engineers were also present during the visit, a press release from the PM House said.
While welcoming the prime minister, SPD DG highlighted the fact that the NCC was a highly secure and a fully protected facility. Nawaz was also briefed on the indigenously developed strategic command, control and support system, which was designed to facilitate decision making at the NCC.
The prime minister was given a demonstration of the state-of-art connectivity of country-wide strategic assets which was an exclusive network ensuring effective control over the strategic assets by the NCA. Prime Minister Nawaz commended the skills, expertise, professionalism and dedication of individuals as well as the organisations involved in the development of the NCC and the requisite support systems. He later visited a technical site where he was briefed by Army Strategic Force Command’s commander. app
