President urges NAB officers to follow law only
* Mamnoon asks them to remain uninfluenced and impartial
ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday urged the investigating officers of the National Accountability (NAB) to remain uninfluenced by any consideration and abide by the law alone.
Addressing the certificate award ceremony of the newly inducted investigation officers of NAB, the president said NAB is mandated to carry out across-the-board transparent accountability and its officers were expected to discharge their duties with honesty and integrity. President Mamnoon awarded medals and certificates to the meritorious officers.
The president said corruption destroys the very fabric of society, social institutions and undermines the value of work and dignity of human beings. Mamnoon said the role of investigators was critical and crucial in the fight against corruption, and stressed that an investigating officer should be thorough and impartial.
“Your conduct should never be influenced by any other consideration but by the rule of law alone,” the president said to the new officers who attended a seven-month training. President Mamnoon pointed that the investigators were often blamed for delays and for leaving loopholes. He hoped that they would take on all challenges with the strength of character and would keep the national interests as the foremost priority. He advised the young officers to continue the pursuit of excellence in their future life and make an inspiring impact on the world around.
The president said that the path which the new officers had chosen would demand continuous hard work, commitment and high degree of determination. He expressed confidence that the new NAB officers would be able to successfully negotiate any difficulty with the similar zeal, dedication and commitment that they have displayed so far. “For the success and credibility of your organisation, it is imperative that you know your strengths, capabilities and also the limitations so that by capitalising on your strengths and minimising your limitations, you are able to perform your duties efficiently with sincerity and correct orientation,” Mamnoon said.
NAB Deputy Chairman Rear Admiral (r) Saeed Ahmed Sargana said NAB was pursuing a three-pronged policy based on awareness, prevention and enforcement. He said the NAB officers had undergone rigorous training to handle the issues relating to corruption, and expressed confidence that young officers would leave no stone unturned to eradicate this menace from the country. He also mentioned media’s vibrant role as a catalyst in highlighting the issues of corruption. app
