‘Political militants’ among 233 arrested in KarachiKARACHI: Law enforcers claimed to have held around 233 suspects including political workers, gang war criminals and extortionists during separate targeted raids and operations across the city on Saturday.
Pakistan Rangers Sindh conducted an intelligence driven joint targeted raid in Azizabad last night and arrested 43 criminals, including two notorious target killers affiliated with a political group. The detainees are allegedly involved in numerous cases of politically motivated killings. Weapons including five short machine guns, four rifles, shotgun, 12 pistols, hand grenades, bullet-proof jackets and large quantities of mixed ammo were also recovered. According to a statement issued by the Rangers, the arrested target killers have confessed to numerous cases of politically motivated target killings.
The targeted raids were conducted in Khori Garden, Sher Shah, New Karachi, Hussainabad, Hyderi, Dawood Regency - Gaddap, Micassa Centre, Machar Colony, Baldia Town, Malir - Khokrapar, Liaqatabad and Azizabad areas. While snap-checking was also carried out in Kala Board, Joria Bazar and Burns Road areas.
During the operation hardened criminals including Lyari gangsters, target killers affiliated with political groups have been arrested. Separately, police arrested three alleged target killers from Gulistan-e-Johar.
SSP East said police raided the areas surrounding Johar intersection and arrested alleged target killers Hashim, Abdullah and Mohsin.
As per the police, the accused persons face charges of several several target killings and murders. Three TT pistols and a motorcycle were also seized from their possession, police added.
Moreover, police conducted 104 raids in different parts of the metropolis and claim to have apprehended 186 criminals, including 91 absconders, 29 under arms ordinance, 13 robbers, five murderers and extortionists.
Recovered items in these raids include several ball bombs and weapons of different calibres.
PAC leader Uzair Baloch’s house raided: Rangers personnel raided the house of banned People’s Aman Committee (PAC) leader Uzair Baloch in Lyari and conducted a search operation in the area, however, no arrests were made. The areas where operation was conducted included Nawa Lane, Afshani Gali, Cheel Chowk, Kala Kot and Chakewara where the security personnel sealed the entry and exit points to restrict movement. A heavy contingent of Rangers including women personnel took part in the action.
Gangwar accused Buledi remanded to police custody: Anti-Terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Saturday remanded a Lyari gang war accused, Ameen Buledi, to police custody till October 9, 2013.
Police brought Buledi in an armoured personnel carrier (APC) to ATC-III and produced before Judge Saleem Raza Baloch. The court ordered investigation officer to submit medical test reports of the accused.
Buledi was wanted to Kalakot, Kalri, Baghdadi, Kharadar, Mithadar, Napier, Docks, Darakhshan and other police stations in over 27 cases of extortion, kidnapping, murder and other crimes.
Randhawa’s murderer identified by witness: An eyewitness on Saturday identified killer Kazim Abbas Rizvi who is accused in the murder of advocate Naimat Ali Randhawa.
Two days ago MQM activist Rizvi was handed over to police on a 14-day physical remand.
Randhawa, a legal adviser of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was assaulted by gunshots on September 26 when he was going home with his son in Nazimabad. The injured father and son were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Randhawa succumbed to injuries.
Last Tuesday, Additional IGP Shahid Hayat addressed a press conference in Karachi, where he revealed Rizvi’s affiliations with MQM, and his involvement in Randhawa’s murder - a senior lawyer pursuing TV reporter Wali Khan Babar’s assassination. staff report/agencies
