Provision of ballots, magnetic ink was not our responsibility: MQM

KARACHII: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Faisal Sabzwari, Tuesday said it was not his party’s responsibility to ensure the ballot papers and magnetic ink was available at the polling stations during May 11 elections, Geo News reported.

“Pinning all the polling irregularities on the winning candidate is unfair”, Sabzwari said addressing a press conference at the MQM Headquarters “Nine Zero.”

He said the reports of irregularities with regard to two constituencies namely NA-258 and NA-256 were quite similar, but certain quarters were stressing that it was only NA-256 where polls were rigged.

“Why those who have opened this front against MQM are unable to understand that there is a difference between 'rigged' and 'unverified' votes. They are not that naive”, said he.

Sabzwari said that the MQM was another contender in the elections like other political parties.

"Why is only the MQM being singled out? Why is only our mandate under attack? Why was only the MQM accused of rigging the polls in the whole Pakistan", said he.

Going forward the MQM leader vowed not to bow down to such tactics.

He urged the government to have the voters' thumbprints verified as demanded by other political parties and train the NADRA and Election Commission staff properly.
