China to give $6 million for quake victims

ISLAMABAD: China has committed to provide financial assistance of $6 million for the earthquake victims.

Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Secretary Nargis Sethi and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong singed a certificate at EAD on Monday for the Chinese assistance. Of the total funding, $4.5 million will be given in kind, and will be in the form of articles like medicines, tents and other necessary things. Speaking on the occasion, EAD secretary thanked the Chinese government on behalf of the government of Pakistan for its prompt response during all calamities. She also highlighted the close and friendly relations between the two countries which, she noted, are strengthening with each passing day. Sethi also mentioned the Chinese cooperation in different sectors in Pakistan.

The Chinese ambassador, meanwhile, expressed the commitment of his government towards further strengthening the existing close friendly relations between the two counties. He said that Chinese government was much grieved over the loss of human lives in the earthquake. He said that China would continue to contribute in the overall development and progress of Pakistan.
