Quake relief operation at full swing: army

Islamabad: The relief activities in quake-hit district of Balochistan are at full swing and the situation is improving with every passing day, the ISPR said in a statement on Wednesday.
The DG said a well-coordinated mechanism has been put in place where all government agencies responsible for disaster management in collaboration with Army and FC Balochistan are trying their best to reach every affected person and family. He said relief operations continue in earthquake affected areas despite attempts to disrupt relief work and supply of goods by terrorist in the area and no effort will be left to help our brethren in earthquake affected areas of Balochistan.
The DG ISPR appreciated the cooperation of locals and said that local populace has extended all possible help to security forces for smooth conduct of the massive relief operation.
The relief goods are being transported from Karachi by road as well as by air. Four forward operating bases have been established in Malar, Awaran, Mangoli and Mashkai. To speed up the supply of relief items, 2 C-130 are being used to drop relief items at designated drop zones at Malar and Gishkaur for distribution among affectees.
A hectic aviation effort is underway to augment the relief work in earthquake affected areas of Balochistan. As many as 14 Army Aviation helicopters are being used and so far these helicopters have flown for 428 hours for provision of timely relief goods to people in distress. Till date 36843 tents and 3308 tons of rations have been distributed among 62429 earthquake affected families.
Besides a field medical hospital, 5 mobile medical camps have also been established in Buzdar, Lubach, Mangoli, Parwar and Kokjo. 3594 patients have been treated so far and all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any spread of epidemic in the affected areas.
DG ISPR said that four relief collection points have also been established by Army in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi / Islamabad and Quetta. It is heartening to see the people of Pakistan throng these designated collection points, and depositing relief goods for their Balochi brothers. So far 378 tons of rations and different relief goods to include tents, blankets and medicines have been received at these collection points and have been dispatched to Karachi for onward transportation to Awaran.
