Human Rights Commission Punjab issues report on Balochistan

LAHORE: Human Rights Commission Punjab Chapter has issued its fact finding report on Balochistan.

Renowned right activist Asma Jehangir sad that everybody in Balochstan wanted peace in the province but on the basis of equality and with preservation of basic rights.

The report proposed steps for improvement of law and order situation in Balochistan, stressing that intelligence agencies should work within their constitutional ambit.

The report also suggested that a human right advisor should be deployed in each district of the province. It said Balochistan Chief Minister should also appoint a human right advisor to monitor the situation.

Asma Jehangir said that the situation in the province could only be improved through participation of locals provided their basis human rights are not violated.

She said that international aid agencies were not able continue their work for earthquake victims of Balochistan due to security threats.

Jehangir said that there was no reason to hold talks with Taliban but the Human Rights Commission will support government in its efforts for peace.
