SHC hears contempt plea against Nawaz Sharif tomorrow

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) will hear a contempt of court petition against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif tomorrow (Monday).

An SHC bench headed by Justice Azhar Rizvi would take up the matter, after SHC Chief Justice Maqbool Baqir took notice on Friday of Nawaz Sharif’s statement that the judges in Karachi were under pressure.

Sources said the SHC chief justice summoned the magistrate concerned and prosecutor and sought facts from them with regard to the PM’s statement.

The chief justice said that as per the magistrate, he recorded the same statement as given by the witness. There is no substance in the statement given by the PM, he said, adding that judges give decisions courageously and bravely and they do not succumb to any pressure.

Sources said the chief justice also remarked it is government which parades weakness and not the judges. agencies
