Senators to file petition against Musharraf
PESHAWAR: Several senators have decided to file a petition against former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf for illegal dissolution of the Senate following the October 12, 1999 coup.
The senators have also decided to “stoke the embers” and started consulting legal advisers over the issue, which could be put forth the Supreme Court after Eidul Azha.
The senators plan to get a compensation of three-year blocked salaries, allowances, since a Senate cannot be dissolved before its six-year tenure.
ANP’s Ilyas Ahmad Bilour, Zahid Khan, Qazi Muhammad Anwar, Ajmal Khattak (late), Mukhtair Ahmad Khan, and Syed Aaqil Shah, PML-N’s Anwar Kamal Marwat (late), Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Javed Iqbal Abbasi, Malik Abdur Rauf, Nisar Ahmad Khan, Anjam Khan and Sartaj Aziz, PPP’s Syed Masood Kausar, Waqar Ahmad Khan, IJI’s Bashir Ahmad Matta, and independents Abbas Sarfraaz, Syed Qasim Ali Shah and Syed Muhammad Javed were elected senators in the 1997 elections. online
