SHC issues notice on petition against cops’ corruption

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to DIG police crime branch, DIG South, heads of Saddar and Preedy police stations and other cops on a petition seeking action against two officials of crime branch for holding petitioners to ransom.

A single bench of SHC, comprising Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar also issued notices to advocate general Sindh and prosecutor general Sindh and adjourned the hearing of the case till November 8.

The petitioners, Naseer Ahmed and Zafar Hassan Khan submitted that they were auctioning different articles in Saddar Market, from where Inspector Den Muhammad Mazar, belonging to crime branch arrested their three employees from the shop.

The petitioners alleged that the inspector subjected their employees to torture and released after they paid Rs 70,000 to the inspector.

Petitioner Khan told the judge that police arrested him from the shop on October 3 and released after taking a ransom Rs 200,000.

They prayed to the court to order legal action against such police officials and restrain them from harassing citizens. ppi
