Holding LB polls in short period of time is a ‘challenge’: Acting CEC

ISLAMABAD: Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani has said that holding Local Bodies (LB) election in a short period of time and making it transparent is a challenge, Geo News reported.

Addressing a meeting here Tuesday, the Acting CEC of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) asked the chief secretaries and civil officials to uphold the sanctity of their oath instead of political affiliations.

Secretary ECP, Ishtiaq Ahmed informed the meeting that code of conduct for LB polls will be issued on October 31. He said officers of district administration will perform the duties of Returning Officers (ROs) in these elections.

The ECP Secretary further said over 50 billion ballot papers will be printed and dispatched to polling stations across the country within two weeks.

Returning Officers should get the electoral lists till November 01 for LB polls in Sindh, Ishtiaq Ahmed added.
