Nawaz Sharif rules out any extrajudicial step in Dr Shakil Afridi case
LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Monday said that Dr Shakil Afridi's case was sub judice and the Government of Pakistan would not override any court ruling, whatsoever it may be, Geo News reported.
"In Dr Afridi's case the court's verdict would be the final thing for the government of Pakistan. It will not venture into anything that is above the 'law of the land' or extrajudicial", Sharif said talking to media after arriving here.
Premier Sharif is in London to attend World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF).
Speaking to newsmen, he said that as a sovereign country Pakistan reserved the right to take its own "uninfluenced" decisions.
“We must exercise this prerogative according to what was in the best interest of Pakistan and not others. ”, said he.
Replying to a question he said that the law & order situation was improving in Karachi with every passing day.
“Peace will soon prevail in Pakistan’s economic hub”, Sharif said.
Speaking on drone attacks he said that he had left no reservation unexpressed on the issue during his meeting with President Obama.
“The drone attacks are a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and there are no two policies about it”, said he.
To a question he said that extending support to Afghanistan was part of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
“Being a brotherly neighboring country a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is vital to Pakistan”, Shairf said.
On the sidelines of WIEF, he will also hold a crucial meeting with his British counterpart David Cameron and President Hamid Karzai to boost the Afghan reconciliation process.
