Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said on Tuesday that Japan and Pakistan should look into avenues where both countries could venture into civil sector development projects.
The minister met Ambassador-designate of Japan Hiroshi Inomata at in his office on Tuesday. Hussain said that since defence cooperation with Japan is very limited, therefore, ventures on the civil side where Japan could extend support are of much importance to Pakistan.
Referring to second shipyard to be built in Gwadar, the ambassador said the proposal “very fruitful” in enhancing relations between the two countries.
“The new shipyard project will uplift shipping industry of Pakistan and will serve as a good harbour for ships trading in the region. It will also act as a gateway to Gulf,” the minister told the ambassador. The minister also commended the police structure of Japan and called it a successful model to be followed by the rest of the countries, including Pakistan. Later, a delegation of Nigeria and Tajikistan met Ministry of Defence Production Additional Secretary Maj Gen Raza Muhammad.
