Senate body unhappy with power minister, secretary’s attitude
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Water and Power will complain to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about the attitude of Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif for not attending meetings of the committee for quite some time and it also protested against the water and power secretary for his absence from the committee meeting.
As a mark of protest against the attitude of both federal minister and secretary, the committee ended its meeting on Wednesday and asked the secretary to inform the committee through a written reply as why he didn’t turn up in the meeting.
The committee, chaired by Awmai National Party (ANP) Senator Zahid Khan, recorded its strong protest and observed that minister appeared least interested to resolve the power crisis in the country. At a time when country is plunged into darkness, committee is helping the government through its proposals to end the crisis, senators noted.
However the minister is not paying any heed to these suggestions and not giving the due respect to the committee which is tantamount to degrading parliament, committee members were of the view. The committee also protested against NTDC for not sharing the information with it when it sent certain queries regarding the resolution of energy crisis and expenses from the national exchequer.
Senators Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Maula Bukhsh Chandio, Saifullah Magsi, Humayun Khan Mandokhel, Khalida Perveen, Gul Muhammad Lot and Akbar Magsi felt that the minister and secretary should have been present in the meeting to discuss the important issues of Balochistan on water and power.
