Role of youth in bringing peace stressed

ISLAMABAD: The PAIMAN Alumni Trust organised a panel discussion with young peace practitioners from across KP and FATA and policy makers on importance of mediation and dialogue in evolving peace and transforming conflicts. The panel of esteemed and seasoned experts included Mr. Fiaz Ahmed Toru, ex-IGP KP and ex-Home Minister, KP, Brig (R) Mahmoods Shah, Security and Defense Analyst and Ms. Fauzia Nasreen, ex-Ambassador and diplomat. The group of peace practitioners from 25 districts of KP and agencies of FATA consisted of youth who have been trained on mediation, dialogue, conflict transformation by PAIMAN and SFCG.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Fiaz Toru said that terrorism is multifaceted and youth can be instrumental in evolving peace. Ms. Fauzia Nasreen said that conflict resolution starts with one’ own self and stressed that youth should be made part of policy making process.

Mahmood Shah said that youth should focus on improving education to refrain from falling victim of extremism. Ms. Ammara Durrani appreciated youth’s efforts and congratulated PAIMAN on the project success. Ms. Mossarat Qadeem reiterated PAIMAN’s commitment to work with youth to address violent extremism in KP and FATA and emphasized on the need of counter narratives to extremism.
