Polling in by-elections held peacefully: ECP

ISLAMABAD - Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Babar Yaqoob Fateh Muhammad on Sunday said that polling in the by-elections in NA-122, NA-144 and PP-147 was held peacefully.

Talking to the media here, he said that it was the first time that the ECP had deputed officials from Khyber Pakthunkhwa and Balochistan as district returning officers and returning officers in the constituencies. No officials from the federal and Punjab governments were deployed as returning officers in the by-elections. He said that some 35 complaints were received which by and large were not about as much serious.

He said that more than 6,000 army personnel were deputed at polling stations. He appreciated the Pakistan Army and Punjab Police for ensuring law and order situation in the constituencies. He also thanked to the political parties for keeping peaceful environment.
