Army chief conferred Turkish Legion of Merit
ANKARA – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif was presented with Legion of Merit, an award by the Turkish Army for the former’s contribution to regional peace and stability.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the army chief reached Ankara on a three-day official visit where he laid floral wreath at Kamal Ata Turk’s mausoleum. Later, he visited Land Force Headquarters and met his Turkish counterpart.
He expressed heartfelt condolence on bombings in Ankara. “We understand enormity of your challenges and stand by you,” he said, according to a tweet by ISPR Director General Lt Gen Asim Bajwa. The army chief also discussed enhanced cooperation in the field of counterterrorism with his Turkish counterpart.
“Pakistan and Turkey are facing daunting challenges. I am sure we will surmount them with a common and coherent approach. We assure you our unflinching support,” it said, adding that the army chief was awarded Turkish Legion of Merit award for “courageously handling terrorism menace”.
