PM optimistic on realisation of promise to end load shedding

JHANG: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday the menace of electricity load shedding will be eliminated by 2017-18 after completion of power projects initiated by the government.

Addressing the inauguration of a 1230-megawatt LNG power project at Haveli Bahadur Shah near Jhang, the PM said that load shedding has already decreased by 50 percent in the country because of the steps taken by the government, adding that he can see the promise to the nation to end load shedding being realised.

He went on to say that the government is completing a number of power projects, run by various sources of energy including water, solar, coal, gas and wind.

PM Nawaz added that another new power plant project will be inaugurated at Balloki soon.

He further said the government is delivering on all fronts and a new culture of transparency has been introduced in the country under which huge savings have been ensured from the estimated costs of new power projects.

“Through this practice, the government has saved RS.110 billion on three LNG power plants.”

The PM praised the untiring efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, other concerned ministers, as well as high up officials in establishing these projects.

He went on to say that work is also in progress on laying a pipeline from Pakistan's coasts to these LNG plants, adding that transmission lines will also be laid for transmission of electricity to the national grid.

The prime minister further said power generation is not the only objective, but supply of cheaper electricity to domestic consumers as well as industry is also a priority of his government.

He said that ‘Karachi’s light’ has also been restored by improving law and order situation and foreign investors are now pouring in.

PM Nawaz added that work is also being done on new hydel projects like Bhasha, Bunji and and Dasu.

He said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will bring prosperity to all areas of the country.

Criticising his political opponents for creating hurdles in the way of the government's public welfare programmes and other mega projects, the PM urged them to refrain from baseless criticism.
