BEIJING - Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that Pakistani nation reject and denounces terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestation.

“As a nation, our message and intent is very clear. We reject and denounce terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said. “Zarb-e-Azb military operation along with different actions conducted from time-to-time by our armed forces is testament to the fact that people of Pakistan reject terrorism,” he said.

The minister is in China to attend sixth Xiangshan Forum. Speaking on the forum, Asif shared Pakistan’s perspective on the issue of regional terrorism, roots and solutions. It is a platform for security and defence dialogues established in 2006. This year the forum discusses security trends in Asia-Pacific region, security concepts in Asia, maritime security and anti-terrorism.

The minister said that terrorism has a local, regional as well as trans-regional impact and outreach. “Today, due to globalisation, we witness spillover effects of conflicts from neighbours to regions and beyond,” he said. Asif also highlighted the National Action Plan (NAP), devised by the Government of Pakistan to counter terrorism. He also emphasised the importance of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which would transform the region’s economy and dovetail perfectly with the strategy of developing and connecting south and central Asian regions of the world.

In the end, the minister thanked China Association for Military Science Chairman Lt Gen GAO Jin, China Institute for International Strategic Studies Chairman Admiral SUN Jianguo, Peoples Republic of China and the organizers of the Xiangshan Forum with the hope that such interactions would help the world community in evolving joint strategies to overcome common threat and security problems emanating from terrorism.
