PM Nawaz proceeds on 4-day official visit to US

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has left on a four-day official visit to the United States today (Monday) for talks on a host of issues with US leadership including President Obama.

The invitation of this visit was extended to him by Obama.
The prime minister had delayed his departure for a day due to last minute consultations between the high-ups of both the countries in Washington. He was to leave on Sunday morning but one-day delay was made due to the development in Washington.

Ahead of the departure, Director General Inter Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Rizvan Akhtar held a meeting with PM Nawaz Sharif and briefed him over his US visit.

Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar had proceeded to Washington last week and returned here late Sunday evening.

PM Nawaz will reach Washington on Tuesday morning after spending a night in London.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will discuss besides regional situation, matters relating to defence, counter-terrorism, economic, trade, education, health, and climatic change.
He will also meet Chairman of House Foreign Affairs Committee and members of Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

He will have business interaction with Pakistan-US Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also deliver a speech at the US Institute of Peace.
