PM Nawaz links better Pak-India ties with resolution of Kashmir issue
WASHINGTON: Terming Kashmir as the bone of contention between Pakistan and India, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said if New Delhi is serious about improving bilateral ties with Islamabad, the issue of Kashmir will have to be resolved.
Addressing Pakistani community soon after arriving in the US on a four-day official tour, the Premier termed the Indian response to Pakistan’s desire for better bilateral ties as discouraging.
He said the problem of Kashmir will have to be resolved for peace and stability in the region.
Talking about internal challenges being faced by the country, the Prime Minister vowed to purge Pakistan of the problem of load shedding before the completion of the incumbent government’s constitutional term in power.
He said a number of power projects are being initiated in the country and the task is being performed in a way that will result in savings of Rs120 billion. “We treat the public’s money as their trust with us.”
PM Nawaz Sharif noted that today’s Pakistan is completely different from that of what ‘we had received two and a half years ago’.
He said the wave of change can be felt by all and sundry in every sector and every part of the country.
The Premier said be it Karachi, Balochistan or Fata, there is improvement everywhere as regards to law and order.
He said operation Zarb-e-Azb is still underway and the time is not too far off when the menace of terrorism will uprooted from Pakistan for good.
Commenting on the government’s plans for the country’s infrastructure development, he said a new airport will soon be built in Gwadar while foundation stone for Lahore to Karachi motorway will be laid in the next few weeks.
He said one party tried its best to create political crisis in the country. “The Supreme Court’s inquiry commission termed the general elections of 2013 as transparent but unfortunately the commission was not accepted”.
PM Sharif said the incumbent government allowed the opposition parties to form their governments.
“I would like to tell you that the incumbent government is putting its heart and soul towards fulfilling the responsibility of serving the country and the nation,” he said, adding, ‘we will hand over to you a Pakistan in 2018 that is much more bright, developed and prosperous than that of 2013.’
