Pakistan hands over dossiers on India’s ‘interference’ to US
* Three separate sets of documents contain ‘evidence’ of India’s involvement in subversive activities in FATA, Balochistan and Karachi

WASHINGTON: Pakistan on Wednesday handed over three dossiers to US Secretary John Kerry about the Indian involvement in subversive activities in the country.
The dossiers were handed over to the US side by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz when the US secretary and senior officials of the State Department called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his team here. Informing the US delegation about his peace initiative contained in his statement at the recent session of the UN General Assembly, the prime minister underlined his commitment to contribute towards promoting a peaceful South Asia. He apprised Secretary Kerry of Pakistan’s efforts to improve relations with Afghanistan and reiterated his commitment to seek normalisation with India.
Secretary Kerry was briefed about the destabilising role of Indian agencies in FATA, Balochistan and Karachi. The secretary emphasised that Pakistan’s role in taking the reconciliation forward was critical to stabilising Afghanistan. Recalling their long and cordial interaction over the years, they took stock of recent developments in the relationship and stressed the need for continued high-level engagements on all issues of mutual interest.
Kerry and senior officials of the State Department called on Nawaz Sharif at the Blair House on Wednesday. The prime minister briefed Secretary Kerry on the important achievements of his government over the last two years, especially in the economy and internal security domain. Secretary Kerry assured the prime minister of the continued US cooperation to further enhance economic engagement between the two countries including in meeting Pakistan’s energy needs. The two sides also discussed the situation of peace and security in the region and it was agreed that terrorism posed a common challenge to the regional and global security and reaffirmed their resolve to counter this challenge.
The prime minister informed the secretary of state that the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb as well as the National Action Plan were achieving the desired results in improving internal security and eliminating terrorism from Pakistan. It was pointed out that the incidents of terrorism in Pakistan had significantly reduced in recent weeks. Secretary Kerry commended the significant gains achieved by Operation Zarb-e-Azb which had decimated the terrorist organisations in the border region. Appreciating the commitment of the prime minister to promoting peace and security in the region, Secretary Kerry reaffirmed US support to work with Pakistan in this shared objective.

Nawaz Sharif said that with the fast improving law and order situation, stable economy and the government’s commitment to rid the country of electricity power load shedding by 2018, Pakistan was changing “in real terms and not in slogans.” “With the grace of Allah Almighty, Pakistan is changing. Not in slogans or promises, it is changing in real terms,” the prime minister remarked while addressing a large gathering of Pakistani community here at the Pakistan Embassy late Tuesday night. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is in the US capital on a four-day official visit on the invitation of President Barack Obama, updated the Pakistani community about the policy initiatives as well as practical steps taken over the past two-and-a-half years by the present government to retrieve the country from the various challenges it was facing. The prime minister said investors were shy to come to the country; there were no international sporting events and Pakistan was on the verge of being declared as a failed state at international level.
