PM briefed over relief activities in Pakhtunkhwa
‘222 persons lost their lives, 1697 injured in province, while 8,453 houses damaged’

PESHAWAR - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday was given a briefing about the loss of lives and infrastructure damages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during his visit to the provincial capital.
The prime minister arrived here on a day-long visit to personally oversee the relief measures taken in the aftermath of the earthquake. At the Governor House here, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary apprised the prime minister that 222 persons lost their lives and 1697 were injured in the province, while 8,453 houses were damaged.
The prime minister was told that the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was carrying out relief work in the affected areas. The prime minister was updated that relief goods had been sent to Shangla, Upper and Lower Dir, Torghur, Swat, Malakand and Boner. Also, 1,000 food packets have been sent to Chitral besides distribution of 2,000 tents, 2,000 blankets and 2,000 mats among the affectees.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and officials of the Pakhtunkhwa government were also present. The prime minister is also scheduled to visit Chitral later in the day.
