Anti-polio campaign postponed in parts of Karachi due to security concerns

KARACHI: The Polio immunization campaign in Karachi’s Baldia and Gulberg towns that was to run from the 28th till the 30th of October has been postponed due to lack of security provision for the immunization teams.

The campaign was planned after the first case of Poliovirus was identified in Karachi earlier this month. Nearly one year after the last incidence was reported from the city.

The campaign was to run for three days starting on the 28th of October however due to security concerns. According to sources 1,200 policemen were requested to provide security to the immunization teams in Karachi.

Meanwhile, at a special meeting of the Anti-Polio Campaign chaired by the Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, MNA Azra Fazal Pechuho said that the campaign will now run from the 3rd till the 6th of November.

The chief minister has now ordered that 3,000 policemen be provided for the Polio immunization campaign.
