Imran declares war on corruption mafia
*PTI chief says he will reform FBR and NAB after coming into power in 2018* Country suffering from Rs 4,000 billion corruption a year
MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday said that the nation was being pushed into poverty due to rising debt and inflation brought upon the country by the ‘corruption mafia’.
“Enemy is not capable of harming our nation in the way this mafia has done,” the PTI chief told a rally in Mandi Bahauddin. “They are not politicians … they are mafias who have looted the nation in the past 30 years,” he said, as he lashed out at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif for burdening the nation with huge debt.
Imran said the corruption mafia was looting the country, adding that deep-rooted corruption exists even in the process of collecting taxes. He further said that only the common man was paying the taxes while the elite of the country always elude authorities. “I will catch the influential crooks by introducing reforms in the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB),” he said. “Common man will be relieved from paying heavy taxes after these criminals are brought to justice.”
The PTI leader claimed that the country was suffering from corruption involving 4,000 billion rupees. “The money laundered from Pakistan easily amounts to 1,000 billion rupees,” he claimed, as he stressed on the need for urgent reforms in the country’s economic framework and institutions responsible to build efforts against corruption.
Imran said that the people are made to bear the brunt of loans injected in the economy by corrupt leaders. They are made to pay heavy taxes to keep the economy afloat, he added.
Imran claimed that he faced many hardships inflicted on him by the same corruption mafia ever since he started his political struggle. “This mafia continues to damage Pakistan for its own benefits,” he said.
Imran mentioned the testimony of Lyari gang war kingpin Uzair Baloch in which he flung allegations at Zardari. “Baloch confessed that at the behest of Zardari, he got people murdered and illegally confiscated 14 sugar mills in the province to sell them at throwaway prices to the PPP-co chairman,” he said. “What is this if not corrupt mafia?” he asked. He also reiterated his demand to make joint investigation team’s report concerning Uzair Baloch public.
Khan said that Khalid Shehanshah was a witness in Benazir Bhutto assassination case and that he was murdered on orders of PPP leadership.
