Fawad criticises PML-N over protest call
Reacting strongly to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) announcement of launching protests against Shehbaz Sharif’s arrest, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Monday said those who had plundered the wealth of the nation would be held accountable despite all protests.
Speaking to media outside parliament after a similar speech in the Senate, the minister said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had made it clear that country could not move forward without holding looters of national wealth accountable.
“I can’t just comprehend as to why the opposition takes offence when we (the government) say that we will hold looters accountable,” said Chaudhry, adding that the opposition could only stage walkouts from legislatures as it could not respond to allegations of corruption.
He also dared opposition leaders to protest if they think they were being wrongly accused or “targeted” in this campaign.
“Our container is free and we welcome you all to use it (for protests) but to stage such a protest one needs strong character and public support and you (the opposition) lack both,” said Chaudhry.
The federal minister went on to say that the government had no role in the arrest of PML-N president Shehbaz.
“All institutions are working within their constitutional limits,” he added.
The information minister said that the hue and cry of the opposition could not put an end to the accountability process, adding that “they (opposition) were finding excuses to stage walkouts.”
