SC sets aside appointments of acting Nab chief, PG

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) declared illegal the appointments of Acting Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Javed Qazi and Prosecutor General Irfan Qadir, Geo News reported Wednesday.

The SC issued an order while hearing a case regarding a scandal involving Haris Steel Mills loans from Bank of Punjab.

The counsel of Bank of Punjab filed a plea against these two Nab officials.

The court said in its decree that Irfan Qadir should summarily be removed from his office of Prosecutor General. Qadir was charged for receiving money from owners of Haris Mill.

Holding illegal the process of appointing Javed Qazi as Nab’s acting Chairman, the court ordered to appoint a permanent chairman of the Nab.

Former NAB Chairman Naveed Ahsan tendered his resignation after National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was annulled; ever since, the office is lying vacant.
