Sindh demands Rs 450 billion from Federation for rehabilitation

Sindh government in a special session of its cabinet under President Asif Ali Zardari and Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has demanded Rs 450 billion aids from the federation for meeting damages struck by flooding.
Sindh cabinet met in a special session at chief minister house Karachi on Sunday; the president and PM jointly chaired the meeting. Federal Information and Interior ministers also attended the meeting. It had been agreed to decide for extending Eid Package to the affectees in the meeting of Common Interest Council (CIC) scheduled today (Monday).
Sindh cabinet briefed on the flood situation and relief efforts. Prime Minister said all efforts would be made to help all provinces including Sindh.
The Premier while addressing a press conference after the meeting apprised the media that department of Health, Irrigation and Education briefed on the flood devastations. He said the human loss in Sindh was lowest as compare to Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. Giving of relief package to the affectees before or after Eid would be decided in the meeting of CCI where chief minister of all provinces would be present he observed adding the requirements of provinces would be met in proportion to the enormity.
Responding to a question the premier stressed for investigation in to the matter relating to breaching of dykes; and in this connection Sindh government would be directed he added. The volume of loss swelled due to people’s resistance to leave their house; however the rescue works under various government agencies did their best he maintained.
Regarding APC he said a time frame could be given which was possible only after consultation with all parties. He said the loss was gigantic therefore government could not meet the challenge singularly; that is possible with international help. The developmental and non-developmental expenditures including the expenses of PM house would be re-appropriated to divert resources to the rehabilitation of flood affectees he disclosed.
The assistance for the affectees would be disbursed transparently among the provinces and I will monitor the rehabilitation work he observed. He denounced the terrorism in strong terms in Balochistan and else where and underlined that the terrorists had not spared the Nation from scourge of terrorism in even in pain of the floods. I have asked the Interior minister to visit Balochistan in this regard he opined.
Gilani spelled out that Sindh was the province where maximum mobile hospitals were provided to arrest the epidemics. A hospital of 200 beds has also been provided in the Thatta he maintained adding if Sindh more will be provided at PIMS Islamabad. He assured the Sindh government for all possible medical help and provision of medicine.
