By Akhtar Amin
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will contest its claims of Rs 200 billion in losses in flood-related devastation in a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) today (Monday).
Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told Daily Times on Sunday that a damage assessment survey had been completed in all the flood-affected sectors of the province and a rehabilitation strategy had been formulated. He said that Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti would present the province’s case in the CCI meeting, highlighting extensive damage caused by the floods in the province. According to the provincial government’s recent estimates it would need Rs 200 billion to repair and reconstruct damaged infrastructure in the province. Hussain said that the chief minister would brief the CCI about the financial needs of the province. He said that the reconstruction and rehabilitation work in different sectors, particularly public health engineering, works and services and irrigation, had already kicked off.
