MWM demands sacking Malik, Raeesani, Sanaullah

Staff Report

KARACHI: The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) demanded dismissal of ministers and law enforcement officials on Sunday over their failure to protect the participants of the Al-Quds rally.

MWM Karachi Secretary Muhammad Mehdi, Allama Aftab Haider Jaffari and others were addressing a protest rally outside the Karachi Press Club to condemn the blasts in the Youm-e-Ali procession in Lahore and the Al-Quds rally in Quetta.

Criticising Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s statement about limiting rallies, they demanded Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to immediately sack Malik over his failure to maintain law and order in the country.

It is the responsibility of the government to protect the citizens, instead of blaming the organisers of the rallies, they said.

They also demanded resignation of Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raeesani, Balochistan inspector general of police and Balochistan Frontier Constabulary (FC) commander over the killing of more than 60 people in the incidents of blast and firing in the Al-Quds rally.

Most people were killed by the FC and police’s firing on the participants of the rally, they claimed.

They further demanded Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Mian Nawaz Sharif to sack Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah over his “links with the outlawed terrorist organisations”.

They appealed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of this critical situation and take concrete steps to rid the people of terrorism and the banned groups responsible for it.

The participants torched the flags of the United States and Israel at the end of their demonstration and blamed the agents of these countries for the blasts.
