Security to be beefed up after 26th of Ramazan: IGP
LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tariq Saleem Dogar on Monday directed all the capital city police officers (CCPOs), regional police officers (RPOs), district police officers (DPOs) and senior district police officers (SDPOs) to beef up security after the 26th of Ramazan and intensify round-the-clock patrolling by armed contingents of police to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the Eidul Fitr holidays.
Talking to APP he said on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, all CCPOs, CPOs, RPOs and DPOs had been directed to formulate a comprehensive security plan.
Dogar added that the programme also included an additional deployment of police at all sensitive areas especially at important shopping plazas and commercial markets and mosques during fajar and taraweeh prayers, to avert any untoward incident.
He said the RPOs and DPOs had also been directed to conduct a series of surprise visits to different areas and police stations and personally monitor the performance of their subordinates, otherwise the DPO, SDPO and the station house officer (SHO) concerned would be responsible for negligence.
In Lahore, over 150 well-equipped squads of Elite Force commandoes with sophisticated weapons in addition to large contingents of police will be deployed for patrolling.
CCPO Muhammad Aslam Tareen told APP that special security arrangements had been made to maintain law and order and control any untoward incident in the provincial metropolis.Giving a brief detail, he said foolproof measures had also been taken to seal and cordon off the entire city in case of any mishap. app
