Journalists seek compensation for bereaved families
Staff Report
PESHAWAR: A special package should be announced for the heirs of killed journalists as the government was doing in the case of police personnel and army soldiers, Peshawar Press Club Chairman Shamim Shahid said on Monday.
Addressing a reference to pay homage to Ejaz Raisani, a private TV cameraman, who was injured in the Quetta suicide attack and later died, he said, “We demand the government compensate journalists’ families as well.”
Raisani and media assistant Muhammad Sarwar were killed and six others were injured when a suicide bomber ripped through the Shia procession. “The journalists are al fighting against terrorism, and families of those journalists killed in line of duty should be compensated by the government,” Shahid said.
