Eid-ul-Fitr being celebrated with simplicity


ISLAMABAD : Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramazan, is being celebrated across the country with simplicity due to devastation caused by the floods.

Eid congregations held across the country amid stringent security measures adopted by the law enforcement agencies for the security of faithful. Ulema and Mushaikh in their sermons highlighted the significance of the day and asked the faithful to remember have-nots and flood victims in the happiness of Eid. Special prayers were also offered for the integrity, stability and prosperity of the country and well-being of Muslim Ummah. Prayers were also offered for independence of Kashmir, Palestine and other parts of world where Muslims are engaged in the struggle for their right to self-determination.

Stringent security measures had been adopted to maintain law & order on Eid. Policemen performed duties at mosques, Imambargahs and open places where Eid congregations were held. Entry in these gatherings was allowed after strict checking.

After offering Eid prayers, the faithful exchanged Eid greetings. Eidee was also distributed among children. The faithful also visited graveyards to offer Fateha for their near and dear ones who had left this immortal world.

The government had announced four-day holiday from September 10 to 13 in connection with Eid-ul-Fitr.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza, all the four provincial chief ministers and leadership and activists of different political parties celebrated Eid with the flood victims and distributes Eid gifts as well as relief items among them.

Meanwhile, women and children thronged different shopping centres, markets for Eid shopping on Friday. The shopping trend is very dull due to floods and price hike.

This year, after the devastation of floods and heavy rains which left almost 20 million people affected, the government has announced to celebrate Eid with simplicity.

The nation is also expressing solidarity with millions of flood affected persons on Eid with the government institutions, NGOs and private sector doing every bit to mitigate the suffering of affected people
