Politicians to celebrate Eid with flood affectees

* Political parties to take action against leaders who do not spend festivity with flood victims

Staff Report

LAHORE: All mainstream political parties, including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP), have directed their ministers and leaders to celebrate Eidul Fitr with the flood victims in different flood-hit areas.

The parties also warned their workers that their presence in the flood-affected areas would be strictly monitored and action would be taken against those party men who would disobey the orders. PPP sources told Daily Times that the party high-command had directed the party’s federal and provincial ministers and different office-bearers to spend most of the time on Eid in the flood-hit areas of all the provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan. The party high-ups had also issued orders that strict action would be taken against those workers who would not spend the festival in the affected areas.

ANP sources said that the party high-command had issued orders to its office bearers and ministers that they should not forget their fellow countrymen who had lost their houses, properties and other assets due to the floods and should try to pacify them as much as they could.

Sources in the MQM informed this scribe that the party had given directions to its ministers and leaders to celebrate Eid with the flood affectees so that their spirits could remain high as they were going through turbulent times at the moment. The PML-N, which leads the Punjab government, had also directed its ministers and leaders to spend Eid with the flood victims in the nine flood-hit districts of the province.
